I Belong To God

One of the reasons Paul wrote his first letter to the Corinthian Christians was to teach them how to live for Christ in a corrupt society. He recognized they were surrounded by sin and were struggling under the pressure to fit in—to conform—to this environment. Sound familiar? Aren’t we faced with this same pressure? Paul challenged them then and he gives us a challenge today:

(1 Cor. 6:19-20 my paraphrase) What? Don’t you know that your body is the temple (dwelling place) of the Holy Spirit, which is in you, which God put in you, and you are not your own (you do not belong to yourself)? You have been bought with a price (a very high price). Because of this, you are to glorify God (give the right opinion of who God is to others, saved or unsaved) in your body and in your spirit which are God’s. What does that mean to me? Very simply, I belong to God, both body and spirit, and I have a responsibility to display that fact to others. I challenge you to ask God to show you specifically and practically how you can do that, and write down what He tells you.
