Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.

Philippians 4:8

Good Report

Philippians 4:8 Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.

What comes to mind when you think about Miriam, the sister of Moses and Aaron? That she helped care for her baby brother, Moses; that she served God alongside her brothers as they led the Israelites out of Egypt; that God allowed her to prophesy for Him, and also lead the Israelite women in worship after crossing the Red Sea; that she served God until her death; or do you think about the one blight on her testimony recorded in Scripture? In an act of jealousy, she verbally attacked Moses, seeking to undermine his God given authority, and was greatly punished by God.

No one wants to be thought about in light of past sins that have been forgiven by God. Let us all be careful to “think on” and talk about those things that are of “good report” and praiseworthy in others.
