And God is able to make all grace abound toward you; that ye, always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work.

2 Cor. 9:8

Don’t Limit God

Our 6th annual Mission’s Conference with Dr. John Godfrey was a great success.  God used Bro. Godfrey’s preaching of God’s Word to encourage and challenge our hearts to do more for missions.  Our Faith Promise that was taken up on the end of the conference was an all time high of $47, 530.00.  Many challenging messages were given, but one stood out to me, especially in light of our plans to embark on our ‘Building to Abound’ program.  In II Kings 4:1-7, a widow woman had an overwhelming need and she went to Elisha for help.  Elisha did not bail her out by giving her a handout, but instead he told her to take what she had which was a “pot of oil” and go borrow some “empty vessels” from her friends and neighbors.  He instructed her to think big when he said “borrow not a few”.  God took her vessel that was given and filled up every empty vessel that was brought into her house.  Pastor Godfrey said, “God cannot give us what we don’t have until we give Him what we do have.”  This lady gave God her only pot of oil and every vessel that was brought in was filled.  I wonder if she had after thoughts like, “I should have borrowed more vessels.” We tend to limit God many times.  We serve an omnipotent God that has no limits except the ones we put on him.  My prayer for each of you and myself is that we will not limit God in our individual lives and in the life of our church.  Don’t forget 2 Cor. 9:8 which says, And God is able to make all grace abound toward you; that ye, always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work.
