But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever.

2 Peter 3:18

Are you Growing?

GMBC’s theme verse for 2012 is 2 Peter 3:18, But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever.”  The word ‘grow’ means ‘to be continually growing’.  Believers are challenged to grow in ‘grace’ which is God’s unmerited favor and also the exercise of the spiritual graces mentioned in 2 Peter 1:5-7.  Spiritual growth begins when you accept Jesus Christ as your personal Savior, and then continues as you deepen your relationship with Him by getting to know Him in a personal way.  This was the Apostle Paul’s goal as he described in Philippians 3:10 “That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death;” Are you growing as a Christian?  If not, why not?  Not growing in the Lord gives Satan an easier opportunity to get a foothold in your life and render you useless for the Lord.  As you see things growing around you this spring why not put forth the effort to grow in your spiritual life?
