If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.

John 8:36

Are You Free?

The 4th of July is the time when we celebrate our independence as a nation from British rule.  On July 4, 1776, the Declaration of Independence was signed. This freedom came at a high cost for our forefathers.  The closing words of the document solemnly declare: “With a firm reliance on the protection of Divine Providence, we mutually pledge to each other our lives, our fortunes, and our sacred honor.”  Someone said, “We often forget that, in declaring independence from an earthly power, our forefathers made a forthright declaration of dependence upon Almighty God.”

Are you free?  You live in a free country, but you may not be really free.  John 8:36 says, “If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed”.  Real freedom comes when you realize that you are a sinner, turn from sin [repent] and place your trust in Jesus Christ alone [faith].  When you get saved, Christ not only gives you freedom from the penalty of sin [Hell], but also freedom from the power of sin through the indwelling Holy Spirit.  What a wonderful blessing it is to be really free.  Are you free?
