When Satan tries to discourage you, focus your thoughts on God and His unchanging character, and you will experience unexplainable joy and peace, even in the midst of a crisis.

Don’t Be Discouraged

“Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted within me?. . .” (Psalm 42:11a) We can all relate to this psalmist at times in our lives.  Things don’t go the way we think they should.  People disappoint us.  We suffer from some unexpected illness, disease, or accident.  A loved one dies.  We lose our job.  We have financial setbacks.  During these times we must focus our thinking on God and who He is.  “When we fail to see God’s hand in our circumstances or when we contend with Him over His choices for our lives, we become candidates for emotional depression.”(Nancy Leigh DeMoss)

God created us as emotional beings, and He understands how we feel, but we must trust in His unswerving faithfulness to us and rely upon His never-failing strength to carry us through the rough times.  The Psalmist encouraged himself in the Lord and refocused his thinking on God:  “Hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise him, who is the health of my countenance, and my God.”  Ps 42:11b

When Satan tries to discourage you, focus your thoughts on God and His unchanging character, and you will experience unexplainable joy and peace, even in the midst of a crisis.
