Follow after things which make for peace...

Romans 14:19

Pursue Peace

Pursue peace. In Romans 14:19 Paul admonished the Christians at Rome to “follow after things which make for peace…” Heb. 12:14 says, “Follow peace with all men…” 2 Tim. 2:22 also tells us to follow, among other things, peace. It is clear that God doesn’t want us to quarrel or argue foolishly. If you have a critical, argumentative, quarrelsome spirit, and are always ready to “take someone on” verbally, you need to examine yourself and your relationship with God. That kind of spirit is an outward manifestation of inner conflict. It is not the spirit that Christ has or that the Word of God promotes. Could there be sin in your life, or bitterness or anger in heart toward God or someone else? This will spill over and damage many other aspects of your life, including relationships within your family, church, and workplace. Ladies, it has been said many times that the woman sets the tone in the home. “If mama ain’t happy, ain’t nobody happy!” And that is true to a great extent. We have such a great opportunity, to set a peaceful tone, not only in our homes, but also everywhere we are. Are you willing to let God show you if there is something in your life that displeases Him, and if He does, would you pray today, as King David did in Psalm 51, “Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me.” A person who has a Christ-like spirit within will actively seek to promote peace and unity. “A right relationship with God leads to right relationships with fellow believers.” (Life Application Bible)
