For by wise counsel thou shalt make thy war: and in multitude of counselors there is safety.

Proverbs 24:6

The Blessing of Wise Counselors

Am I ever grateful for wise counselors!!  God has given us a great truth in Proverbs 24:6 which says, “For by wise counsel thou shalt make thy war: and in multitude of counselors there is safety.”  Many Christians do not realize that every work attempted for the Lord is going to face opposition from Satan.  He may use other people to do his work, but don’t think he is not diligently working to disrupt plans and discourage the saints.  Yes, we are in a real war, and just as the wisest generals would not go into battle without consulting wise counselors, so we shouldn’t haphazardly charge into God’s work without wise counsel either.  God sent two wise counselors this past month to GMBC to help us plan our strategies for missions.  Dr. Harry Walmer and Dr. Gene Gurganus have had extensive experience in missions and both are very active in the leadership of the mission program at Hampton Park Baptist Church in Greenville, SC.  What a blessing they were to the leadership of GMBC and also to our church family.  They shared multitudes of experiences and wise counsel with us to aid us in organizing our missions in such a way that God would be glorified and free to do all that He wants to do in us and through us here at GMBC.  Yes, there is safety in the multitude of counselors.  I am glad that God has given us many good counselors here at GMBC and I pray that we will always be open to their counsel.  I do not want to be like King Rehoboam was in I Kings 12 who refused the wise counsel of the older experienced men and instead acted on the counsel given to him by the younger inexperienced men.  It cost him his throne.  It pays to listen to the counsel of those who have already been down the road.  They can help keep us on the right road and out of the ditches.  Thank you God for wise counselors.
