And God is able to make all grace abound toward you; that ye, always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work:

2 Corinthians 9:8

Thank God for Freedom

July 4th is a wonderful time of celebrating our independence as a nation. For most of us, being Americans has brought untold blessings at a very little cost on our part.  On July 4, 1776 the 56 signers of the Declaration of Independence did not have it so easy.  They paid a high price for our freedom.  They knew the penalty for their “act of treason” was death by hanging.  Of the 56 signers, 9 died of wounds during the war, 5 were captured, imprisoned, and brutally treated.  Several lost wives, children or the entire family.  12 had their homes burned, and 17 lost everything they owned.

The Bible tells us that cost of our freedom from the bondage of sin came at a high price too.  Jesus Christ willing was made sin for us, and died in our place so that we might go free.  II Corinthians 5:21for he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.  Aren’t we blessed to live in a free country and to be free from the bondage of sin?   If you have been set free through the blood of Christ, can I encourage you to follow the admonition given in Galatians 5:1 which tells us to Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage.  I hope you will rejoice not only that you live in America, but more importantly that you are truly free through our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.  If you are not free, you can be if you are willing to repent of your sin, and place your trust in Jesus Christ as your Saviour.

Make plans to join us on Saturday, July 6th at 4pm at the Rogers farm for our church wide picnic.  Bring you lawn chairs, softball gloves and something that would taste good with mouth watering barbecue.  The church will supply the barbecue if everyone else will supply the fixins. We’ll start around 4 pm with the meal.
